2016 Spaulding Award to be offered at

2016 Spaulding Award

 

This very attractive and decorative Japanese Imari dish, C. 1890, features a fluted design with a scalloped shaped rim. There are no cracks or chips and no restorations have been done to the piece. The dish measures approximately 11 3/4 inches (30 cm) diameter, 1 5/8 inches (4 cm high).

 

 

 

 

Award Criteria:

 

This award is to be given at the sole discretion of the exhibition jury to the best exhibit of Japanese related material entered.  "Japanese related material" is defined as the philately and postal history of Japan and former Japanese colonies, territories, and occupied areas, including Manchoukuo, the Ryūkyū Islands, Japanese seapost offices and other civilian and military post offices abroad, and foreign post offices in Japan.  Studies of forgeries as well as revenues fall within the scope.  For the award to be made, there must be a least three exhibits that judges determine are within the scope of the criterial and the exhibit must receive a vermeil or better in the open competition.
